Psychological problems have to do with your feelings and thoughts.
Social problems have to do with your relationship with other people or institutions.
Relevant in the psychosocial development of athletes is her or his role in the social environment and the role that other relationships play in the quality of sports involvement of athletes throughout the athletic lifespan.
Research shows that psychosocial support is considered crucial in transition and adaptation to a new cultural environment because:
- A football players main interpersonal network might shift at this stage form lifelong friends, parents and coaches to partners, new teammates, coaches and agents.
- Research state that the setting for talented young football players entering top-level football in a new cultural environment is one in which they are usually deprived of social support. Because previous social relationships as family, friends and employees of the old club will be lost.
- Players feel burdened or pressured by social insecurity and comparison. Social comparison is the process of thinking about information from one or more other people in relation to yourself. Social comparison is always present in competitive sports, where the feeling of being approved, evaluated and valued is a constant burden or threat in the event of failure. Which also can lead to pressure, stress, anxiety.
